I. Normal Findings on MRI A. B. C. D. E. Fig 1. 8 yr old boy with developmental delay and hearing loss. A, B. Normal coronal T2 FSE images. The remainder of the conventional MR evaluation of the brain was also normal. C, D. Multivoxel long TE MRS, and, E single voxel short TE PRESS reveals an abnormally low Cho:Cr ratio of 0.40 for age. Decrease in Cho:Cr ratio has been described in metabolic disorders. The etiology is unclear but may be a result of myelin rarefaction or damage. As will be illustrated in this exhibit, mitochondrial OXPHOS disorders commonly affect white matter.
