Figure 1:CTP of a right middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion.
(A) Cerebral blood flow (mL/100 gm/min) represents the volume of blood moving through a given unit volume of brain per unit time.
(B) Cerebral blood volume (mL/100 gm) represents the total volume of blood in a given unit volume of brain; including the blood in the tissues and the large capacitance vessels (arteries, capillaries and veins).
(C) Mean transit time (seconds) represents the average time it takes for blood to travel from the arterial inlet, through the capillary bed, to the venous outlet. The color scale is shown to the left of each image. High CBF and CBV values are indicated in red, and increased MTT is indicated in blue. The right MCA territory demonstrates decreased CBF and prolonged MTT (arrows), with slightly elevated CBV, possibly reflecting relative vasodilatation in the ischemic region.
