Clean up
  • Irreversible cell injury and cellular rupture are associated with the release of cellular components, production of cytokines and increased expression of adhesion molecules.
  • These agents recruit circulating polymorphnuclear leukocytes (PMNs) and macrophages to phagocytize the cellular remnants and replace them with fibrotic tissue (gliosis). Gliosis is composed mainly of interstitial fluid and has high diffusibility.
