Hypoxic neuronal injury

Neuronal hypoxic injury is triggered by hemodynamic derangement which leads to decreased O₂ delivery to the neurons.

Normal Cerebral Hemodynamic Physiology

Cerebral blood flow (CBF)
- 40-67 ml/100 gms/minute (50-55)
- CBFGM > CBFWM (3-4X)
Cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP)
- 60-180 mm Hg
Cerebral Autoregulation maintains normal blood flow
- in this range of blood pressure

Etiology of Cerebral Ischemia

Arterial	Venous	Hypoperfusion
Embolus	Thrombosis	Intracranial hypertension
Thrombus	Stenosis	Decreased cardiac output
Vasospasm		Shock
		Decreased circulating volume
