MR imaging plays a great role in the management of stroke patients and is helpful in the selection of patients for thrombolysis. A detailed understanding of the pathophysiologic response of neurons to ischemia and how to predict the evolution of this response based on multisequence MR imaging is increasingly one of the major responsibilities of radiologists.
